Trincomalee

Trincomalee is located on the beautiful East Coast of Sri Lanka and capital of the Eastern Province. Pigeon Island National Park is one of the three marine national parks of Sri Lanka. Today it’s very popular among local and foreign tourists due to its Beautiful beach. It’s also quieter than the southern coast and gives you a more relaxing holiday. It is about 265 km from the Sri Lankan capital city, Colombo. Trincomalee is the perfect place for sun and beach seekers, thrill seekers and those hoping to relax. As shown below, there are many places to visit in Trincomalee and the surrounding area and many activities in there.

  • Trincomalee natural harbour
  • Pigeon Island– this is a very beautiful and calm small island that is human human-unaffected area and is newly famous among tourists. It offers tourists a chance to tourists to snorkel with some turtles, colourful fish, and even colourful coral reefs. Please be careful not to don’t damage the coral reef and its nature. The only way to reach this miracle island is by boat, as it is about 2.5 km from the shore of Trincomalee.
  • Whale watching – because of the Recent development of Whale Watching Tours in Trincomalee, tourists can get an international-level whale watching experience here. And also, it has become as fast as another internationally important whale-watching destination. ( Mirissa, located on the south coast, is the other whale watching destination in Sri Lanka). Around four to six nautical miles east of Trincomalee (about 30 minutes by boat), we can see Blue whales regularly. Between March/April and August/September is the most suitable period for whale watching here, as whales continue their migrations around the island from the south coast.
  •  Fort Frederick – This Fort was built by the Portuguese in Trincomalee in the Portuguese era, like their famous Galle fort on the south coast, Sri Lanka. It is currently the main tourist attraction in Trincomalee and is known as Frederick Fort. It has panoramic views of Trincomalee’s natural harbour and surrounding beauty and is a popular picnic spot. There are a few historical buildings in this fort, like a Buddhist temple, Gokanna Rajamaha Viharaya, and Koneswaram temple, and you can see some deer.
  • Marble Beach –  Marble Beach is one of the most wonderful beaches on the Sri Lankan east coast. It is very popular not only among locals but also among foreigners due to its clean white sand. It is located about 15 km from Trincomalee town. In this area appear some birds and mammals with species of endemic birds and mammals.
  • Nilaweli Beach – Nilaveli Beach is located about 15 kilometres north direction from Trincomalee. It is very popular for its white sands, quieter water and bathing spot. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka, with sunbathing and relaxation. This place is ideal for swimming, snorkelling and diving. This is also a wildlife reservation and you will be marvelled by the beauty of its underwater world from diving. Also, there is boat access to Pigeon Island National Park from here.
  • Thinukoneswaram Hindu temple ( Koneswaram temple)

Koneshwarm Temple is located in the Frederick fort, and it is the other main attraction in the fort. This temple is one of the most sacred Hindu temples in Sri Lanka.

It is built at the top of the Swami Rock, a rocky promontory cape overlooking Trincomalee, an ancient harbour port town. This is a very well-maintained temple, and it has hundreds of statues and ancient artworks. Also, you can go everywhere in this temple and explore its tradition. Often you can see wild animals, including spotted deer and monkeys and overlooking is very beautiful with blue Coloured Ocean.
