Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa is the main town of Polonnaruwa District in North Central Province, Sri Lanka. And also, Polonnaruwa is the second royal city in the ancient Sri Lankan Kingdom of Polonnaruwa. It’s located about 222 km from Colombo, which capital city of Sri Lanka.


The Ancient City of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site due to its ancient ruins, which were built in 2000 years ago. We can see many archaeological sites connected with Buddhist culture, huge tanks, stupa (pagoda), pleasure gardens, wonderful caves and sculptures in the Polonnaruwa area.
Also, there is a jeep safari in Kaudulla National Park, which is enriched by wildlife near Polonnaruwa city. This is a wonderful site with hundreds of wild elephants gathering here and other wild animals around in the Kaudulla Forest and Kaudulla Tank.
